Closing of a Chapter
A few weeks ago, my landlady terminated my lease at the house that I’m staying in King of Prussia, PA. She gave me until December 1 to move out. I was not completely surprised because there were some frictions already. It was a matter of time when I will leave the house, and ultimately King of Prussia. Though, I was hoping that I’ll leave after coming back from my Latin America travels, but it’ll be sooner than that.
I was feeling depressed for about three days. I applied to some jobs thinking that’ll be my next step. However, it’ll be the holiday season soon and there won’t be much hiring. I thought about buying my dad’s old minivan and start a vanlife. Later, I decided against that since it’ll be winter soon and the idea of a vanlife doesn’t really appeal to me right now. Then I thought, why not continue my travel adventures in Latin America. That idea seems more fun than a job or a vanlife. So I pushed my 2027 travel plan ahead of schedule and bought a plane ticket to Miami on October 14, then another ticket to Mexico City on October 19. I feel good about this decision and it gives me the excitement I need.
I plan to take a Spanish course in Mexico City, maybe for a month to start then see how I feel. After Mexico, I’ll work my way south to Central America then South America. It’ll be at least six months of solo backpacking travels in the Americas. I might apply for jobs from abroad starting early next year since the timezones are similar. I might also get a CELTA certificate in Argentina and get a position teaching English somewhere. From South America I don’t know where to go. I might come back to the States or take a direct flight to New Zealand and travel there and Australia. It’s too far away to think about in terms of a timeline, but it’ll be an adventure for sure.
Back at home, I voted by mail-in ballot for the mid-term election. Voting is important to me now than ever so I’m glad I did that. I contacted my friends and had conversations with them one last time before my departure. I also booked a storage unit to store all my things, which is just six or seven boxes. Lastly, I’m trying to sell more of my things on Facebook Marketplace and Mercari to downsize further.
I still feel bored everyday because I’m just waiting for my departure. I still take my morning walks and do some writing to pass away the time. I’m currently sorting my 2025-26 travel photos and I hope to upload them to this website before I leave. But I feel nostalgic already, thinking that the Wegmans shopping trip is my last time there, or that my next library trip will be my last, maybe I’ll attend my last hiking meetup next weekend.
I realized that it’s been ten years since I moved to the Philadelphia area for work. First, I rented a room in Blue Bell, then moved to North Wales, then West Oak Lane, then Wayne, and now King of Prussia. My time here has been great overall mainly because I was able to adapt well and make wise choices, such as going through a breakup and manage job changes. I will look back on this time period as one of my more enjoyable periods in my adult life. I hope the next ten years will be even better, wherever I will be.
During the days before my departure, I will take some photographs and post them in my next blog post to commemorate my time here.
