This morning, I spent the last of my Leks on some breakfast items at the local grocery store. As always, I wanted to leave a country without any local currency.

At 9 AM, I rode my bike from Mega Hostel to the Sarandë ferry terminal nearby. I had to park my bike, go through passport control, then come back to the other side of the fence to get my bike and wait with the cars. It was a weird process.

The ferry ride from Sarandë to Corfu, Greece, was only about 1:15 hours. There’s a +1 hour time change in Greece so I arrived at 12:15 PM.

At the port in Corfu, I had to take my bike through passport control, which was very awkward since there were so many people waiting in line. Anyway, I was glad I got through that.

I checked into Casa Mia Studio apartment with the help of the owner, Constantinos. He recommended Ninos, a popular restaurant that serves the local cuisine. After relaxing for a bit, I walked to the ferry terminal ticket office to confirm the cost to take my bicycle onto the ferry is free. Since I had bought the Corfu to Igoumenitsa ferry ticket online I wasn’t sure if there’s a fee for bicycles. As it turns out, there isn’t a fee. Good news for me!

For the rest of the afternoon, I walked to the old town in the town of Corfu. By the way, Corfu is also the name of this Greek island.

I saw the New Venetian Fortress. It seemed like a ruin so I wasn’t impressed. I did have a late lunch at Ninos. I had a traditional veal dish called pastitsada. It was really good.

I walked by Spianada Square before paying €10 for the entrance fee to the Old Fortress of Corfu. That was the highlight of my afternoon. I spent quite some time walking inside. At the top of the fortress, I could see the town of Corfu. I also explored the rest of the fortress, including Saint George’s Church.

When I exited the Old Fortress, I walked on the north shore of Corfu to get back to the apartment. I don’t really know what to do in the apartment. I might go for a late dinner if I get hungry. Tomorrow, I’ll take the 9 AM ferry to Igoumenitsa and be on mainland Greece.
