Tired of Traveling

I feel tired from traveling. Maybe I should go home.

The days blur by and all I’m doing is sightseeing. I don’t really make long lasting connections. I take photos of the places and soon they mean less and less. I don’t know what I’m doing anymore. I feel tired.

I’m not sure if I want to visit the other countries that I have planned. I feel Japan is probably the best Asian country to see and I’m getting tired of it. Too bad I had already booked a flight to Okinawa and another flight to Nagoya. I guess I have to stay in Japan for a few more weeks at least.

Traveling is not what I expected to be anymore. I’m not in my late teens or in my twenties. I don’t have the energy and the enthusiasm. I’m simply jumping from city to city, hostel to hostel.

At the hostel in Osaka, there isn’t even a window. It seems dark all the time. I don’t really want to stay here any longer, but I already booked a total of six nights.

I’m not sure what to do. Should I continue to travel or return home after Japan? What would I do at home? Life seems boring either way. Another thought is to visit Maui, since I had skipped that island. But the fire ravaged Maui a week ago. Seems like a bad time to visit there.

Maybe something will change in the next week or so. I hope I’ll be in a better mood.

  1. I think it’s something about Japan that makes traveling very lonely and exhausting. People are private and the weather in Japan during this time is hot. Hope you get out of this funk and enjoy the rest of stay.

    1. Yes, I hope so too. I'm still early in my travels. There are many places I would like to visit. I hope my negative feelings are temporary and fleeting.

  2. I usually have long conversations with strangers wherever I go but I found Japanese people to be very private in discussing their lives. (I say this as a person born and raised in Japan and I still speak it without an accent.) Whenever I tried to engage people in conversation, they spent the whole time asking why I speak Japanese and if I'm half, why don't I look more Japanese. I understand your loneliness, I agree with the other commenter that it could just be Japan. Also, most of the people you run into where you are going are foreign tourists. Japanese people do not get dressed up in kimonos in the tourist areas, they are usually overseas tourists.

    1. I feel like I should have stuck with my original plan of visiting Japan for 18 days. Since I have cancelled my ticket to South Korea and staying in Japan longer, now I feel I've stayed in Japan for too long. I will go as south as Naha in Okinawa, then fly to Nagoya, then return to Tokyo. From Tokyo, I might just take a flight to Seoul and skip Sendai and Sapporo this time.

    2. Look into ferry ride from Fukuoka to Busan (South Korea).

    3. I had purchased the ferry ticket from Fukuoka to Busan as my original travel plan, but I had to cancel it since I decided to stay longer in Japan.
